About Us

Our Story

Raised in the heart of the Australian bush, my love of cooking started around open fires and camping trips with little more than a swag, an esky and whatever we could throw over the flames.

Back then, burnt meat, singed arm hair and the occasional cooked knuckle were all just part of the experience. A few close encounters with the fire and you quickly learn to respect the flame.

One thing was always certain though, the bloody tongs were never quite long enough.

A Bit of South African Influence

Years later, after travelling the world and somehow convincing an incredible South African woman to marry me, open-fire cooking took on a whole new meaning.

I quickly discovered that South Africans take cooking over fire just as seriously if not more seriously than anyone. Before long, braai nights became an Aussie–South African family tradition: good meat over hot coals, friends and family around the fire, and plenty of debate about who actually can cook the best steak.

The South Africans call it a "Braai".

We call it a bloody good night!

There Had to Be a Better Way

When it came time to build our first proper open-fire setup, that old problem came back pretty quickly:

Why are BBQ tongs so short?

If you're cooking over a decent fire, you shouldn't need welding gloves or have to sacrifice your forearm hair just to turn a snag.

So we made them longer.

A lot longer.

The result was our signature 63cm BBQ Tongz, giving you extra reach around the BBQ, smoker, pizza oven or open fire.

And when 63cm still isn't enough, there's the mighty 82cm Campfire Tongz made for big fires, hot coals and long nights sitting around Bush TV.

More reach. More control. Less cooked knuckle.

How Long Tongz Came to Life

Like most great Australian ideas, Long Tongz started around a fire, over a few perfectly cooked steaks and probably one too many beers with mates.

Then came the question:

"How Long is Your Tong?"

It was immature.

It was unnecessary.

And naturally, it stuck.

There were laughs. There were a few inappropriate follow-up comments. And eventually, there was a business name.

Long Tongz was born.

What started as a cheeky joke became a solution to a very real problem quality, extra-long Tongz for campers, BBQ enthusiasts, pit masters, backyard cooks and anyone who believes food just tastes better when it's cooked over fire.

Why Long Tongz?

Because getting closer to the fire doesn't make you a better cook.

It just makes you hotter and more smoke in your face.

Long Tongz give you more reach, better control and a little more distance between you and several hundred degrees of bad decisions.

Whether you're turning chops on the BBQ, working a smoker, cooking over an open fire or settling in for another night of watching the fire rage, we've got a Tong for the job.

What's Next?

We're a small Australian business obsessed with simple, quality gear that does its job properly.

We'll keep refining our Tongz, developing new products and finding better ways to keep people around the fire and full of laughter.

Good Meat. Good Mates. Good Fun. Long Tongz.

And one question we're probably never going to grow out of...

How Long is Your Tong?

Cheers,

Timmy from Long Tongz
